Professional Statement

In my therapy practice, I work with adults, early childhood, children under the age of 9 years old and their families that may be experiencing some anxiety, depressive symptoms, stress, life transitions, immigration and acculturation issues, self-esteem, and relationship issues. My interests is also to include Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander mental health, cultural identity, biculturalism, and multiculturalism. I am passionate about the work I have been chosen to do. It is a privilege to be a part of the changing process when clients develop more awareness and explore alternate ways of thinking as they reach their life goals. I believe in empowering others and guide others into new perspectives in their lives. I see my role as someone who provides support and guidance; someone who provides a safe place for clients to make their own decisions and take their own actions. I view therapy as a collaborative and a supportive process between client and a therapist to work on areas of dissatisfaction in a clients' life and to assist with them with their life goals. It is a supportive and sacred relationship between clients and a therapist. My goal is to provide support, guidance, and practical feedback that are tailored to each of client to help effectively address their challenges. With warm and collaborative approach, I work with each individual and family to help them build on their strengths and achieve the personal growth they are committed to accomplish.

My Background

I hold a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. Prior to private practice in 2010, I have worked at Non-profit mental health agencies in children and family services since 2003 with various mental health and behavioral issues with diverse cultures, and social-economic background. Other professional experiences including providing Early Childhood Mental Health consultations in Day Cares and Preschools for personnel and parents to better understanding children’ behaviors in order to meet their emotional needs. My journey through Psychology has provided me with a deep understanding of myself, an understanding on how I was raised in my family of origin, and how the culture had an effect on the person I am today. Through others’ life journeys, custom and beliefs, diverse cultures, I like to help them in increasing their awareness and understanding relationship between the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am an advocate for early intervention and identification of issues in any phase of life. This is also why I love working with early childhood population and young children under the age of 9 years old. While, I am a firm believer of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I also incorporate therapies from other theories, such as Solution- Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Modifications, Creative interventions, Play Therapy, and Sandtray.
